The purpose of the Black Political Operative organization is to recruit, train and mobilize Black people to engage in the political process through electoral politics.
- Black Political Operatives (BPOs) are individuals who professionally or on volunteer bases participate in election cycles. BPOs play an essential role in ensuring the electoral success of candidates by getting out the Black vote.
- The bench for BPOs is weak. Many new black people enter electoral politics without training, a network of support, or an understanding of the role race plays in electoral politics.
- BPOs are often responsible for increasing voter turnout in the Black community, though they may not have the resources or long-term commitment from the campaign. Understanding that electoral politics is an economic engine, BPOs are often forced to challenge the discussion around what it means to invest in the Black community to achieve and ensure increased voter turnout.
